Real Truth About Abs Review

March 29, 2008 by tomhunterds
Getting a six pack can be tough. It takes hard work, dedication, and motivation. If you think you are up to the challenge, and you really want that beach body this summer then please read on. The Truth About Abs program written by Mike Geary is rated the number one abs program on the internet. Why does it have such a high rating? Well the majority of his customers have been very happy with some of the results.
Who is Mike Geary really?Mike is a personal trainer and Certified Nutritional Specialist. The program is all about nutrition and exercise. His idea is to give you a guide towards a full body workout plan in order to get these six pack abdominals, and slimmer/toned body overall. He explains it very well and with proven facts.

Let’s get to the nitty gritty, and explain a little more detail of what you get from his program

Abs

If you are thinking this program has to do with the focus on ab exercise, it doesn’t. It however deals with more than that. It combines the aspects of nutrition, and how we integrate it with our exercises. Don’t get me wrong, the ab exercises are important, but if you want rock hard abs, you will have to burn that belly fat.

Mike Geary will also let you in on his cardio plans that are very quick, and efficient. I have personally been following Mikes rules of fitness, and I have only seen great results. The main thing that really helped me though was his nutritional plan. This plan helps you speed up the metabolism, and make you burn fat even faster. He also tells you a lot about the market industry, and how many of these so called “healthy” foods are truly unhealthy, and somewhat dangerous.

So I have explained all the good things about this program, making it sound like it’s the best thing on earth. I did however have a problem with all the information. I would have rather had it summarized, and put into less detail, but that’s just the way I am. I am all about getting to the point, but since I benefited from the product, I can’t really complain.

My Favorite Post-Workout Shake Recipe

March 21, 2008 by tomhunterds

I’m sure you know by now from my newsletters that I’m not the biggest fan of typical supplements… you know… the hypey types that claim you can “blast off 8000% more fat with this” or “build 2456% more muscle with our mega-mass volumizer insanity”

That stuff is just for people that love to throw their money away on worthless crap that might not even have what the label claims in the bottle.

Of course, I put my trust for some quality items in my friends at http://natural.getprograde.com/

As for post-workout shakes, my favorite is to actually make my own homemade shakes…
Here’s one of my favorites:

Chocolate-banana post workout shake

- 1 frozen ripe banana, chunked- 1 cup water- One 6-ounce container of chocolate or strawberry flavored yogurt (full sugar)- 1 scoop quality whey protein (try to find one with no artificial sweeteners)- 1 tbsp pure cocoa powder (if extra chocolate flavor is desired, and more antioxidants too!)

That’s one of my favorites and pretty damn simple too. The ripe banana and the full sugar yogurt add a good dose of simple carbs to help replenish muscle glycogen after a workout (remember that post-workout is the only time of day I advocate a carb spike such as this). And the whey protein and yogurt add some quick digesting protein to help kick start muscle repair as well.

If you don’t like chocolate, you can skip the cocoa powder and also use a different fruit flavor of yogurt. Also, if bananas aren’t your thing, try freezing strawberries or another fruit. There are endless flavors you can come up with here!

On the topic of making your own supplements at home and saving a lot of money, my friend Jeff Anderson has an interesting website that shows you how to save mucho duckets by concocting your own supps instead of wasting your $$ on supps that you don’t even know if they’re legit or not…

A new healthy food I found

March 9, 2008 by tomhunterds

In the subject heading today, I really didn’t find a “new” food. It just so happens that it was “new” to me, since for some reason, I never remember eating these before.

It’s always good to keep an open mind about trying new and different foods all the time. It certainly keeps things interesting. It seems that many of us tend to get stuck into a routine of always getting the same exact types of food at the grocery store each week.

Sometimes, I like to visit a different store or look more closely in a different aisle that I usually just breeze through to see if I’m missing anything.

Sometimes I’ll find something that may be common food to some people, but that I’ve been overlooking.

This week that common food that (for some reason) I had never tried before was figs. I guess when I was a kid I did eat fig newtons, but that’s a whole different story, full of corn syrup, sugar, refined flour, and processed refined oils.

But I had never eaten whole figs…the real deal.

So the other day, I was in the health food store and saw a bag of whole figs and decided to give it a try. Now I have a new favorite dessert treat that is also healthy.

Sure, figs have a little bit of natural sugars, but they also have a good dose of fiber to help blunt the blood sugar response. Also, as long as you only eat 1 or 2 whole figs, the amount of calories are fairly negligible, while at the same time it helps to quell your sweet tooth (instead of eating a high calorie dessert).

Not only that, but figs are one of the richest sources of minerals of any fruit. In addition, they have a wide array of moderate amounts of vitamins, including vitamin K.
Although I’m now on a fig kick… that wasn’t really my point to this email.

The real point was to remind you every now and then to try to break out of your grocery store habits where you buy the exact same foods every week, and instead look for healthy whole foods that perhaps you haven’t tried before.

Expand your horizons and it makes eating healthy all that more interesting!

Instead of your typical banana, apple, or orange… maybe get a little crazy this week and try a persimmon, passionfruit, pomegranate, dragonfruit, or guava (if those aren’t your usual fruits).
Or if you usually just get chicken and beef as your meats, why not try lamb, bison, venison, ostrich, wild boar, or some exotic fish this week.

Hopefully that gives you some ideas to get started on diversifying your grocery cart.

Of course, if you need ideas for healthy meals that promote a lean healthy body for life, there are 84 lean-body meal ideas already planned out in my Truth about Six Pack Abs program…

How to End the Fat Loss Confusion

February 15, 2008 by tomhunterds

Today I have an article contributed by my colleague Rob Poulos. In it, Rob explains why so much mass confusion exists about fat burning, and how to avoid this and get yourself on the right path for lifelong fitness.

**The Mass Confusion That Dominates In Fat Loss & Fitness Today

By Rob Poulos, Creator of the Fat-Burning Furnace System

http://FatBurningFurnace.net

People are confused more than ever about how to burn fat. They are confused about the best way to go about achieving the body they want. They are confused about what works and what doesn’t, and the reasons why.

There are countless individuals slaving away in gyms and fitness centers around the country right now. They are working tirelessly, almost every day, on the treadmill, stair-climber, elliptical, etc. to burn those calories and fat. They also might be lifting weights several times a week for hours at a time to build some strength and muscle. They might even join a few aerobics or spinning classes too.

They are probably also trying one of the latest diet strategies that promises miracle fat burning and weight loss. They could also be spending a lot of money on the latest and greatest dietary supplements that could be that miracle pill that will aid in weight loss.

They are also carefully watching the scale as their main judge of fat loss progress. If it goes up a pound or two, they may behave rashly and maybe even change up their entire workout or diet program! And of course there are others are doing variations on that same theme.

After all, this is the kind of stuff that many of the popular fitness and diet gurus typically recommend to burn fat. But with so many different strategies and plans being pushed as the be all and end all, what happens is we tend to go overboard.

And when that happens, we lose sight of what really matters in achieving lifelong fat burning, fitness and health… the principles than many people don’t know about, most people have forgotten, and only a select few put to use to achieve lifelong health and fitness. These are the same principles I used to drop over 40 pounds of unwanted body fat, keep it off, and revitalize my life!

With any exercise or nutrition program, you’ll probably lose some fat initially, but far too often the progress doesn’t continue or doesn’t come as fast as the person would like because they’re using a temporary mindset. They’re only focused on the short term and one specific goal. So they end up switching to something else, and the cycle continues until they’ve become consumed by this cycle of confusion.

I believe that this is one of the biggest, if not the #1 reason for the lack of fat loss and fitness progress that is being experienced by the masses of exercisers and dieters in the world. They are jumping from one fad diet or exercise routine to another, while losing sight of what’s really important, and what really works. Simply put, they are exercising far too much, not nearly intensely enough, and trying to adhere to unrealistic diet recommendations.

If instead they focused on a long term plan, a lifestyle as it’s often called, and didn’t worry about “losing 10 pounds by summer”, they would find it far easier to do the right things most of the time. And those right things include brief, progressive, and intense resistance training, eating a diet full of nutrient rich foods, drinking tons of water, and getting plenty of quality sleep and rest.

The students of my Fat Burning Furnace method understand this and are reaping the life long health and fitness rewards because of it. Are you?

The toughest workout of my life!

January 29, 2008 by tomhunterds

I think I’ve officially done the toughest workout of my entire life… this coming from a guy who loves to do wind sprints, hill sprints, high intensity full body weight training, mountain biking, and other super-high intensity forms of workouts.

But this workout didn’t involve any of those.

I’ve actually been in the rocky mountains skiing most of this winter. A few days ago, in order to hit some extreme terrain that’s not accessible from the ski lifts, we hiked up a portion of the mountain by foot.

Here’s what made this the toughest workout of my life…

We were in ski boots, hiking straight up a steep mountain in thigh deep powder, carrying our skis on our shoulders… and all the while, over 13000 feet in elevation (one heck of a difference from exercising at sea level!).

My legs and lungs have never burned so hard in my life. When we got to the summit, it took us at least 5 minutes to catch our breath and have our legs stop burning.

Then, we started the exciting descent down the mountain carving through the deep powder, which quickly brought back some serious leg burning as well as a serious adrenaline rush!
Despite this being probably the toughest workout of my life, it was also so exhilarating, I had a high for probably an hour afterwards.

Now I know this type of workout may not be applicable to you if you don’t ski or hike mountains, but I just wanted to bring up the point that you need to enjoy your workouts if you’re going to have long term success in getting the body that you want.

Also, I wanted to point out that if you’ve been bored with your workouts, there’s another whole world of options out there available to you if you’re sick and tired of treadmills, ellipticals, and weight rooms.

Why not do something fun while getting in great shape at the same time… maybe you could start hiking mountains or take up cross country skiing, snowshoeing, or downhill skiing (I can tell you that I don’t think I’ve seen a single fat person since I’ve been in ski country this entire winter… so it’s more than just fun).

If you don’t have mountains near you, perhaps you could at least spruce up your workouts by doing hill sprints or outdoor wind sprints. If it’s cold and snowy in your part of the world this time of year, you could even do snow running or pull your kids around on a sled (you’ll get a workout and they’ll have fun!). Even chopping firewood is a killer workout, and I actually think it’s sort of fun.

When the weather warms up, perhaps you could try out kayaking, canoeing, or mountain or road biking.

If you’re in the gym, maybe you could even try kickboxing, heavy bag punching, or jump roping to mix up your workouts. Anything to keep you interested and have fun doing your workouts instead of bored to tears on a treadmill or elliptical.

I haven’t used a boring cardio machine like a treadmill, elliptical, or stationary bike for over 8 years, and I probably will never use one again in my life… there are just so many more interesting and fun forms of exercise compared to “walking or pedaling to nowhere”.

Well, that’s my rant for today… make your exercise fun, interesting, and intense and you’ll be hooked on lifelong fitness for good!

I’m out for today.

One last note… my colleague Rob Poulos is having a special promotion with a bonus package that you should check out. You can check it out here:

Fitness Deception on TV and in the Gym

January 10, 2008 by tomhunterds

I had to tell you about 2 interesting things I noticed today now that everyone is once again attacking their New Years Resolutions for a better body.

One thing I noticed is that there seems to be a new blitz of commercials on TV now all claiming that you can “get your dream body without changing anything else in your life”.

I’m not joking… I think those were pretty much the exact words this one commercial used. Sure enough, they were selling a bottle of some useless pills and trying to make you believe that this is the magic answer to your dream body. They said that you don’t need exercise and you can eat anything and still get a perfect body.

This should be a crime. They are flat out lying, and yet somehow they get away with this kind of false advertising without being put in jail!

The bottom line truth is that if you’re not currently happy with your body, then you DO need to change at least some part of your life. Yes, you DO have to do more than just pop a pill!

The change in your life that may be needed is in one or more of three major aspects (all of which need to be handled if you want the body and health that you wish for)…

1. Your nutrition
2. Your exercise
3. Your mindset

Master all 3 of those and your health and body of your dreams actually does become a reality.
Ok, now what I noticed at the gym today…

I’ve been skiing a good bit lately, so my legs were already pretty battered, but I went to the gym anyway to get in a good upper body workout.

Of course, with it being the first week in January, the gym was packed with all of the people that don’t workout the rest of the year, but instead, just come in for the first few weeks of January until they go back to their bad habits and stop working out.

Interestingly enough, I noticed that the cardio area was jam packed and did not have one single treadmill or elliptical not in use.

On the other hand, the free weight area was practically desolate other than just a couple people. Funny though that the people training in the free weight area were in spectacular shape, while at the same time, I don’t think I saw one person on the cardio machines that was in good shape.

It just goes to show that the majority of these well-intentioned people that were pumping away mindlessly on the cardio machines were doing the exact opposite of what they should be doing if they actually want to see results.

There’s a reason the free weight trainers were in better shape than the cardio addicts…
High intensity free-weight and bodyweight resistance training is effective at fat loss and long lasting body composition changes, whereas long duration mindless cardio exercise is NOT.

Start focusing on resistance training (in the right style) and move away from the boring cardio training and you’ll finally see the results you’re looking for.

Keep in mind, if your resistance training is all on machines, you’re not getting the best results you could.

Also, if you focus the majority of your training on single-joint exercises such as arm curls, leg extensions, leg curls, tricep presses, etc then you’re not getting the best results.

And 3rd, if you’re resistance training is an afterthought that comes after your cardio, than once again, you’re not getting the results you could get.

Don’t know what the best method of resistance training is? No worries… all of the most effective techniques with full descriptions are laid out in my Truth about Six Pack Abs program. You can see for yourself what other users are saying here:

Unique Dietary Trick to Boost Your Metabolism

November 30, 2007 by tomhunterds

Metabolism-Boosting Dietary Secrets

I just finished a big meal with my family of ham, yams, mashed potatoes, green bean casserole, and ice cream & cake as dessert… Yeah, I know… how could a fitness professional like myself ever consider gorging on such a huge calorie-dense meal?

What if I told you that YOU can still eat your favorite foods while simultaneously shedding body fat like crazy… Yes, it’s true… but only IF you understand how to manipulate a few KEY aspects of your diet.

Today I want to introduce you to a unique dietary trick that actually allows you to eat your favorite foods while simultaneously boosting your metabolism so that you can shed off body fat easier. It involves a little bit of rotation of foods in your diet but is actually quite easy and fun to do once you get it right.

With the holidays here this time of year, this trick actually allows you to manipulate your daily food choices so that you can still enjoy whatever you want during the holiday gatherings, and if you do it right, you won’t gain weight.

In fact, if you do this right, you’ll actually boost your metabolism and make it easier to burn body fat.

Let me be clear about something… by using this unique method, you do NOT need to starve yourself, overly restrict your food intake, or try to live on nothing but chicken, broccoli, and salad.

Remember, if you do this right, you can actually enjoy most of your favorite foods every week.

My friend and colleague Jon Benson came up with this unique dietary system with the help of Jan Hauser. I have to say that it’s brilliant what they’ve come up with. See for yourself below…

http://FavoriteFoodsDiet.com

Jon and Jan were both obese years ago. Over the past four years, they perfected a System that shows you how they went from obese to “cover model”
fit and still eat their favorite foods.

Not “once a week” either — they INSIST you eat delicious food frequently and without guilt or worry.

>>> Even better, they never count a single calorie!

They get to eat pizza, burgers, ice cream, and more…and still drop the lbs!

This is not a pill or a scam…this is science applied to the real world.

The science: you take advantage of the fact your body prefers a change of pace and can respond by burning ugly fat.

The real world: no one is going to eat salad and tuna every day for the rest of their life in order to shed bodyfat and feel good again.

Simple, right? Common sense!

You absolutely MUST HAVE a diet-plan you can live with for life.

And that’s what this is.

Even better: through our special website below, you get this new System at half price for a limited time only:

Is Saturated Fat Actually Good For You?

November 9, 2007 by tomhunterds

I’ve written many times in the last couple years about the mistaken beliefs in society about saturated fat and the false perception in the media AND with MOST health professionals that saturated fat is bad for you.

If you’ve seen in some of my articles, I’ve even showed you why saturated fat can even be GOOD for you in some cases, despite every health/fitness professional in the world just accepting the false belief that it’s bad for you.

I have to say I was pleasantly surprised to FINALLY see a big name publisher have some guts to publish an article about why everyone in the world may be wrong about their beliefs about saturated fat.

I received my new issue of Men’s Health magazine over the weekend (Nov issue), and they have a huge 6-page article in there about the faulty research in the past about saturated fat, and some new emerging research that is showing why it may actually be more good for you than you would believe.

I’ve got to give them credit… the article was VERY well researched and put together beautifully to summarize where the studies in the past have gone wrong, and why recent studies are showing that everyone may have been wrong for the last 5 decades about saturated fat.

I’d highly suggest you read the entire article if you can. If not, I’m going to try to give you a quick summary of the findings here since it was a long article…

First of all, did you realize that although doctors, nutritionists, fitness professionals, and the media all have told you that it’s a FACT that saturated fats are bad for you, this “FACT” has actually never been proven!

It’s actually not a “fact” at all. It was a hypothesis! This goes all the way back to a flawed research study from the 1950’s where a guy named Ancel Keys published a paper that laid the blame on dietary fat intake for the increasing heart disease phenomenon.

However, there were major flaws to his study. For one, in his conclusions he only used data from a small portion of the countries where data was available on fat consumption vs heart disease death rate. When researches have gone back in and looked at the data from all of the countries, there actually was no link between fat consumption and heart disease deaths. So his conclusions were actually false.

Second, his blaming of fat intake for heart disease was only one factor that was considered. There was no consideration of other factors such as smoking rates, stress factors, sugar intake, exercise frequency, or other lifestyle factors.

Basically, his conclusions which blamed heart disease deaths on fat intake were really just a shot in the dark about what a possible cause may have been, even though all of those other factors I just mentioned, plus many others, may be the bigger cause.

Unfortunately, Keys study has been cited for over 5 decades now as “fact” that saturated fat is bad for you. As you can see, there certainly is nothing factual about it.

Since that time, numerous other studies have been conducted trying to link saturated fat intake to heart disease. The majority of these studies have failed to correlate ANY risk at all from saturated fat. A couple of them made feeble attempts at linking saturated fat to heart disease, however, it was later shown that in those studies, the data was flawed as well.

Do we actually have evidence that saturated fat may actually be good for you instead?
Well, let’s consider a few examples…

Did you know that there are several well known tribes in Africa… the Masai, Samburu, and Fulani tribes… where their diet consists mostly of raw whole milk, tons of red meat, and cows blood? Despite their very high saturated fat intake, they display extremely low body fat levels, and heart disease to natives of the tribe is virtually non-existant.

Now most critics of this example will say that it must be related to superior genetics… however this is false, as when they studied tribesman who had moved out of their native lands and started eating more modern day diets, their blood chemistry skyrocketed with heart disease risk factors.

This is true of certain pacific island countries inhabitants as well. Several studies have shown that certain pacific island nations had VERY high intakes of total fat as well as saturated fat from tropical fats such as palm, coconut, and cocoa. Despite super-high intakes of saturated fat, these island natives were typically very lean and heart disease was virtually non-existant.

However, when researchers followed up with islanders that had moved away from their native island and adopted a typical western diet, the heart disease factors were through the roof.

In fact, did you know that although saturated fat intake does increase your LDL bad cholesterol, it actually increases your HDL good cholesterol even further, hence improving your overall cholesterol ratio, which has been proven to be more important that just total cholesterol level (actually total cholesterol is an almost useless number… inflammation is the REAL problem, but that’s a whole different topic).

Another fact worth noting in favor of saturated fat…

Saturated fat is comprised of various different types… the 3 most common types are stearic acid, palmitic acid, and lauric acid.

Stearic acid is found in animal fat and cocoa in higher levels. Research continues to show that stearic acid has no negative impacts on heart disease risks. If anything, it’s either neutral or beneficial. In fact, your liver breaks down stearic acid into a monounsaturated fat called oleic acid, which is the same type of fat that makes up most of heart-healthy olive oil. Bet you didn’t know that!

Lauric acid is beneficial as well. Not only has it been shown to increase your HDL good cholesterol levels significantly, but it is also lacking in most Americans diet and has even been shown to have some powerful immune-boosting effects potentially. It is even being studied currently in HIV/AIDS research to help improve immune function in patients. Tropical oils such as coconut and palm are the best sources of lauric acid.

Palmitic acid is the other main component of saturated fat and has also been shown to increase HDL good cholesterol to the same, if not greater extent than LDL bad cholesterol, thereby making it either neutral or beneficial, but certainly not bad for you.

So, if all of these researchers have tried so hard over the years to point the finger at saturated fat, but have continued to fail to show a correlation between saturated fat and heart disease risk, what are the REAL culprits for heart disease?

Well, here are the REAL causes of heart disease risk:

  • Trans fats (artificially hydrogenated oils)… see my previous article here for a full explanation about the evils of hidden trans fats
  • Heavily refined vegetable oils such as soy, cottonseed, corn oil, etc. (inflammatory inside the body, and typically throw the omega-6 to omega-3 balance out of whack)
  • Too much refined sugar in the diet (including high fructose corn syrup)
  • Too much refined carbohydrates such as white bread, low fiber cereals, etc
  • Smoking
  • Stressful lifestyle
  • Lack of exercise
  • Other lifestyle factors

So why does it seem that so many attempts over the years have tried to lay the blame on saturated fat… do you think it might have anything to do with the muli-billion dollar vegetable oil industry, which has taken over for cooking oils for what used to be mostly animal fats and tropical oils in decades past…

hmm… do multi-billion dollar industries really have an influence on the way data is portrayed to the public? Of course they do! And don’t even get me started on the cholesterol meds industry! That’s the biggest scam going these days. Again, I digress.

I hope this article has opened your eyes about the truth about saturated fat and how you’ve been misled over the years.

The true FACT is that saturated fat is a neutral substance in your body, and even beneficial at times, not a deadly risk factor for disease. The REAL risk factors are what I listed above.

Here are 2 more articles that are must reads about this topic if you haven’t read them before…

How to Eat the Candy & Still Stay Lean

November 2, 2007 by tomhunterds

How to Enjoy the Halloween Treats & Still Stay Lean

With Halloween this week, no doubt you’re probably surrounded now by loads of sugar and corn syrup laden candy everywhere you go… and now you’re trying to avoid uncontrollably devouring all of the candy laying around your house, so you don’t blow up like a balloon! Or you’re beating yourself up because you gave in and ate half a bag of kit-kats.

Well, don’t worry about it so much, as long as you consider this…

Here’s a tip you can use on how to combat the typical weight gain associated with the candy binge that usually happens throughout this week from all of the halloween candy laying around. The problem is that you’re tempted to indulge but don’t want to add extra blubber on top of those dear abbies.

Well, I say indulge… eat as much candy as you want! Gorge yourself until you can’t eat any more!

Now, here’s the caveat… only do this on ONE DAY, and then go cold turkey! You will not be able to do much damage with just one single day of over-indulgence, as long as you call it quits the very next day, and you make sure it doesn’t happen again for a VERY long time.

Actually, the sugar overload will spike your insulin and revamp your leptin levels when kept to only one day. This, in turn, increases your metabolic rate (but only when done very infrequently). So go ahead and enjoy, but then end it quickly, and get back to your normal healthy balanced diet.

Also, make sure to get a good high intensity weight training workout done the day after your overeating day, and you’ll get one of the best muscle pumps you’ll ever experience!
Same goes for the day after the Thanksgiving feast… a good high intensity weight training workout the day after Thanksgiving will give you the biggest muscle pump you’ll have all year long!

By the way, if you want to try some tasty little treats that taste like dessert, but are actually made of organic dark chocolate & have a decent dose of blood-sugar controlling fiber (making them a sensible snack or dessert) check out the delicious Prograde Cravers (Peanut Butter is my favorite flavor!)…

How to Eat 3000-5000 Calories/day and Stay Lean

September 19, 2007 by tomhunterds

I know that subject line may sound impossible… and to some smaller framed people, it may be impossible.

But the fact is, one of the most exciting aspects of adding more muscle mass to your frame is that you can eat more calories than most of the rest of society, yet you can still stay lean.

In fact, I personally eat over 3,000 calories/day (sometimes even 4000 calories/day), and I stay super-lean year-round.

Like I mentioned previously, some bodybuilders eat up to 5000 calories/day and stay ridiculously lean.
